Over in the Mirror Universe, the crew of the ISS Decimation fail to successfully win the Terran Empire’s final stand, and their survivors are forced to evacuate to the pathetic little ISS Rutan. The search for safe havens leads them to the terror that is the Amusement Park Planet, until they can escape through a mysterious wormhole.
This was a nice enough set of ideas, not tied together too well. First, the fall of the Terran Empire had to happen somehow in the period between Kirk’s first visit and DS9’s interactions with the post-Empire Mirror Universe, and it seemed neat to let the players join the final grand battle against the Klingon-Cardassian Alliance. I also got a nice image in my head of the Amusement Park Planet, twisted into an evil carnival type of place. The transition between these two concepts was pretty wonkily done, and in hindsight should really have been two separate adventures.
In practice, there was some disagreement among the players about exactly how dark to play their Mirror characters. Alex, who gave me a lift that morning, spent the whole drive explaining how his character would elaborately set up a web of systems to monitor Scot’s character, and throw him in the agony booth as soon as he’d accrued enough evidence of the anticipated conspiracy against him. Scot, on the other hand, waited about 2 seconds into play before merely grabbing his phaser and vaporising Alex’s character, declaring himself the new captain.
I’m a little fuzzy on who all died in this adventure, but I know the few survivors took the ISS Rutan through a mysterious portal, and we never specified what was beyond it.
