Star Trek: Peaceful Occupations
Things to Bring
More or less the same as any roleplaying game: Basically nothing, I’ll have all the essentials on me (and you can peel them off as needed), but it never hurts to have your own away mission kit. For those not accustomed to our usual way of doing things, the recommended gear is listed below, from most to least important:
Note paper and pencils and such. I appreciate players keeping their own notes, to remember long-term things both from one episode to the next, and to remember key short-term things within a single session, which can be harder than it seems sometimes. This site should help you to process everything you’ve recorded, but in the middle of a session you’ll need something quicker and less intrusive (see Laptops, below).
The CODA system uses d6s exclusively, usually in pairs.
We can debate who should be bringing food and drink, and who’s excused. But if you do bring stuff, it probably won’t go to waste. Two important rules: Clean your crap up after you’re done and don’t mess my books.
We don’t do very strict boardgame-style combat, but it is often useful to have a visual representation of fights and other very dynamic physical scenes. And, by happy coincidence, there are a variety of suitable Star Trek ship models, though there aren’t many appropriate personnel models. Should you so wish, feel free to bring any small model to represent your character, and I’ll try to cover all the ships with my ST:Tactics collection, but I won’t say no to extra ship options either, if you have some to contribute.
Laptops and such
I haven’t much liked the table-full-of-laptops style of roleplaying, so let’s rather keep them packed away unless they’re really needed. Generally, it works well enough to have lots present for character creation (so that more people can see the rulebook at once), but in regular play I think it’s best to have, at most, one for the GM to consult (so please can I have one) and one other kept available, but out of the way, for players.
I’ll double the experience points earned by anyone who plays wearing a full Starfleet uniform.
